Many people who watch this Japanese animation, My Neighbor Totoro for the first time was attracted to this creature because of their cute appearance, small hands and irresistible coat of fur waiting to be touched.

In this Japanese animated movie, "My Neighbor Totoro", features Hayao Miyazaki's cartoon chinchillas.

Chinchillas, the small breed animal, have finest hair in the world. In 1998, the Malaysian pet market began to have chinchillas for sale in pet shops. Today, many of the large chain pet shops , have chinchilla for sale once in a while, and sometimes almost every month you can see chinchillas available for sale in pet shops. Many people at the first glimpse will be attracted by their cute and lovely nature. If you try to ask for permission to let you pet the chinchillas, you will be surprise how soft the chinchilla's fur is.

In the wild, chinchillas have been observed eating plants, leaf and dried fruit, sometime even insects. However, this diet it may irritate the domesticated chinchilla.

In nature, chinchillas live in social groups that resemble colonies but are properly called herds. Chinchillas can breed any time of the year in captivity. Their gestation period is 111 days, longer than most rodents. Due to this long pregnancy, chinchillas are born fully furred and with eyes open. Litters are usually small in number.
